Community radio is a two way communications tool enabling the
potential within a community to be realised
Andrew Jones has more than 2 decades of experience of the voluntary sector at a senior level within housing associations in South Wales giving a wealth of experience of community development and regeneration and an in depth understanding of the voluntary sector networks
This experience enabled Andrew to establish Wales's first full time community radio station - GTFM in Pontypridd. It was one of the first full time stations in the UK and under his leadership became one of the most successful building up an impressive profile and listener base in its area. The blueprint for GTFM was the original Swansea Sound in the 1970's - one of the UK's first ( and most successful!) ILR stations!
Andrew grew the station successfully with a secure funding base both through commercial and grant funding. In fact during the time Andrew ran the station he secured funding and support worth around £1 million
Andrew built up the profile of community in radio as a tool for regeneration. His successful lobbying resuled in the Welsh Assembly Government establishing a Community Radio Fund for Wales - only the second such dedicated funding source for community radio in the UK.
